The American Revolution was fought primarily in eastern North America, across the thirteen colonies along the Atlantic seaboard. Major campaigns took place in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania before shifting toward Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia, where the decisive siege of Yorktown occurred. Fighting also extended into present-day Canada and west of the Appalachian Mountains into the Ohio Valley and other Indigenous homelands. Coastal ports, river valleys, mountain crossings, and access to the sea shaped troop movements and supply routes. As European powers entered the war, the wider conflict spread to the Caribbean, the Gulf Coast, European waters, and India.
