The visitor center, which has restrooms, is open daily 10am-5pm, only from Memorial Day through Veterans Day.
FREE PUBLIC PARKING
There is generally no admission fee, as with most Connecticut day-use state parks. The park itself is open dawn to dusk year-round for pedestrians and cyclists.

About Putnam Memorial State Park
Over 3,000 men were sent into winter quarters spread throughout three camps in Redding. The camps were established to keep an eye on the storehouses in Danbury, Connecticut, and to protect Long Island Sound and the Hudson River Valley.
Connecticut preserves the encampment's archaeological remains within a state park and State Archaeological Preserve. Reconstructed log buildings, monuments, and museum displays interpret the 1778-1779 winter camp while the protected landscape retains evidence of the original huts.
History happened here at Putnam Memorial State Park
Many of these men were the same who had suffered at Valley Forgethe previous winter. The 2nd Canadian Regiment, or Congress' Own, under the command of Moses Hazen and the 2nd New Hampshire Regiment under the command of Enoch Poor were stationed at this location.
