About Second Allied Siege Line
American and French troops dug the second allied siege line on October 11–12, 1781, advancing within roughly 360 yards of the British defenses at Yorktown. The closer parallel allowed allied artillery and assault troops to intensify pressure. Capturing Redoubts 9 and 10 completed the line and hastened Cornwallis’s surrender.
