HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Lee Chapel.

The nineteenth-century brick chapel survives on Washington and Lee University’s campus as a historic building and museum. Preserved architectural fabric, exhibits, family crypt, memorial sculpture, and landscaped grounds reflect later commemorative history rather than an original structure associated with the American Revolution.

About Lee Chapel

Lee Chapel was built after the Revolution and is chiefly associated with Robert E. Lee and Washington and Lee University. It had no Revolutionary War use. Its indirect connection is through the Lee family and the institution named partly for George Washington, the Continental commander who supported the school after independence.
