About Tomb of Lord Cornwallis
This tomb marks the burial place of Charles Cornwallis, the British general who led major campaigns in the South and surrendered his army at Yorktown in October 1781. Cornwallis died in Ghazipur, India, in 1805 after later imperial service. Although the tomb is far from the American battlefields, it commemorates the commander whose defeat effectively ended major fighting in the Revolution.
