HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Middle Temple Hall, London.

Middle Temple Hall preserves its Elizabethan double hammerbeam roof and an elaborately carved oak screen, though the building suffered bomb damage during the Second World War and was subsequently repaired using traditional materials and techniques. It is owned and administered by the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, one of the four Inns of Court. The hall remains a working dining and ceremonial space and is open to the public only on a limited, guided or pre-arranged basis.

About Middle Temple Hall, London

The Middle Temple, one of London's Inns of Court, built this great hall between 1562 and 1573 as a dining hall for its barristers and students. Elizabeth I supplied oak timber for its roof, and it is traditionally said to have hosted the first performance of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in 1602. It remained central to legal training.
