Mary Clarke Barrett died on May 8, 1764. Mary Clarke Barrett was the eldest daughter of Boston merchant Richard Clarke and Elizabeth Winslow. Mary Clarke married Samuel Barrett. She married lawyer Samuel Barrett in 1761, before the Revolution. Her sister Susanna later married John Singleton Copley, who painted miniature portraits of Mary and Samuel. She died young, and should not be confused with women of the Barrett family associated with Concord. The available biographical account does not describe a continuous final medical course. It gives no dependable sequence of treatment and last symptoms from which to reconstruct a more detailed bedside narrative.
