Catharina Schmuck raised Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and his younger sister after their father's death. A scholarly biography states that she died of a respiratory infection on February 16, 1664. German authority records give February 6; the ten-day difference may reflect the Julian and Gregorian calendars then in use.
