Barbara Watzenrode Koppernigk, mother of Nicolaus Copernicus, survived her husband. A Toruń university history of the Watzenrode family places her death around 1495, while other accounts say after that year. Her brother Lucas Watzenrode, later bishop of Warmia, helped guide the children's education. No cause or burial place is established.
