About Zela Battlefield, near Zile
Zela was the site of a battle in 47 BCE in which Julius Caesar swiftly defeated Pharnaces II of Pontus, who had risen against Roman authority in Asia Minor. The victory was so swift that Caesar reported it to the Senate as veni, vidi, vici. The battle secured Roman control of the region and became emblematic of Caesar's military speed.
