Inscribed by UNESCO in 1994, the palaces and temples are preserved within the ticketed Wudangshan scenic area, and several remain active Taoist sites.
About Wudang Mountains, Shiyan
The Yongle Emperor ordered a vast complex of Taoist palaces and temples built on the Wudang Mountains beginning in 1412 to honor the deity Zhenwu. Hundreds of thousands of workers built the complex over more than a decade. The mountains are also revered as the birthplace of the Wudang school of martial arts.
