VISITOR INFORMATION

Original ironworks placement and the running-battle route remain under review. Check current trail and panel access separately from the later textile mill. The Early Iron Works roadside marker is reported missing. Map point reviewed October 3, 2026: Pin represents the Welcome to Glendale Shoals panel, which identifies a colonial ironworks and Revolutionary War skirmish within a mile. It supplies a nearby interpretation reference while the Early Iron Works marker is reported missing; it does not fix the original works or battle route. Visitor information reviewed October 3, 2026: Public trails open sunrise–sunset; use posted paths and do not climb mill remains. Ruins, surviving structures and gardens belong to later textile-mill and educational heritage, not proven colonial ironworks fabric. The historical panel supplies Exhibits. Toilets inside the college building are not confirmed public; parking at the separate Glendale Nature Park is not assigned here. Parking researched October 3, 2026: Nearby limited trailhead parking on Glendale Avenue beside Glendale Bridge serves a walk to the Broadway Street interpretation panel. Follow posted rules and exclude college-reserved spaces. This does not use the distant Lewis Chapel Road lot.

Visitor amenities reviewed October 3, 2026: No confirmed information was found for public restrooms. The NO entries reflect unverified provision, rather than confirmed absence. Check locally before relying on facilities.

Glendale Shoals Preserve opens sunrise to sunset. Follow the conservation operator’s rules: do not climb ruins and do not use motorized vehicles on trails. A current admission charge was not published. The visible mill remains are later features, separate from the Revolutionary ironworks footprint.

Peak visitation season unconfirmed. No reliable site-specific monthly attendance pattern was established.

April-May or October for a specifically verified public marker or authorized historical-context visit. Resolve the intended ironworks location and lawful approach first.

About Wofford’s Iron Works and Cedar Springs Running Battle Site

Wofford's Iron Works is associated with the August 1780 running battle also linked to Cedar Springs. Patriot and Loyalist forces fought through the South Carolina backcountry near an early industrial site. The event connects military movement with the roads and resources of a developing ironworking landscape.

Later textile-mill ruins belong to another industrial phase and should not be labeled Revolutionary fortifications or surviving ironworks.

History happened here at Wofford’s Iron Works and Cedar Springs Running Battle Site

On August 8, 1780, opposing forces fought a moving encounter associated with Wofford's Iron Works and Cedar Springs. The action belonged to the militia struggle that followed the British capture of Charleston. Roads and industrial gathering places helped shape where forces met and moved.

The early ironworking site was later altered and replaced by different industrial uses. Modern interpretation at Glendale preserves that layered history without making every surviving ruin part of the Revolution. Further proofing should compare campaign accounts with the original works' location and distinguish it from the later mill landscape.
