Wilton House retains its Tudor core along with major seventeenth century remodeling attributed to Inigo Jones and John Webb, including the Single Cube and Double Cube rooms, set within landscaped grounds that include a Palladian bridge, and it remains the private seat of the Earls of Pembroke rather than a ruin. The house is a Grade I listed building owned by the Pembroke family. It is open to the public on a ticketed, seasonal basis with guided elements for parts of the interior.
About Wilton House, Wiltshire
Wilton House was built on the site of a Benedictine abbey dissolved in 1544, when Henry VIII granted the estate to William Herbert, first Earl of Pembroke. Herbert built a Tudor mansion there in the mid sixteenth century, later remodeled in a style associated with Inigo Jones. It remained the seat of the Earls of Pembroke for centuries.
