About Wild Rose Pass
Wild Rose Pass carried an alternate route through the mountains above Limpia Canyon, avoiding an earlier trail through the flood-prone gorge below. Emigrants, United States Army troops, supply trains, and mail carriers on the San Antonio-El Paso Road used the higher pass, named for its wild roses. The route formed part of the corridor linking West Texas to El Paso.
HISTORY HAPPENED HERE at Wild Rose Pass
In early days the Indian trail through these mountains followed the gorge below known as Limpia Canyon. To avoid the floods travelers over the San Antonio - El Paso Road, emigrants, U.S. troops and supply trains, and the mail chose this higher pass famed for its wealth of wild roses.
