The barrow preserves its long earthen mound and a substantial megalithic chamber with sarsen stone facade and forecourt stones, the chambers accessible to visitors, though the mound itself has been partly reconstructed following excavation. It is in state care, managed by English Heritage as a scheduled monument. It is freely and openly accessible to the public.
About West Kennet Long Barrow, Wiltshire
West Kennet Long Barrow was built by Neolithic farmers around 3600 BCE as a chambered tomb, predating the nearby monuments of Avebury and Silbury Hill. Over the following centuries it received the remains of dozens of people, added in stages within its stone chambers. Around 2000 BCE its entrance was blocked with chalk and sarsen stone.
