The archaeological site preserves stone masonry walls, foundations, and terraced platforms of the Wari urban settlement, excavated as ruins in open ground with no significant reconstruction. It is administered by Peru's Ministry of Culture. The site is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Wari (Huari) Archaeological Site
The Wari site was the capital of the Wari empire, an Andean civilization that expanded across highland and coastal Peru from roughly the sixth to the tenth century. Its builders raised a dense complex of stone compounds, roads, and agricultural terraces. The Wari state's administrative network is thought to have influenced the later Inca empire.
