The centre preserves the house and grounds where W. E. B. Du Bois lived in Accra, including his residence, library, and grave, along with personal papers and memorabilia. It is maintained by the government of Ghana as a memorial and cultural institution dedicated to Du Bois. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis as a museum and heritage site.
About W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre
W. E. B. Du Bois, the American scholar and civil rights leader, settled in Accra in 1961 at the invitation of President Kwame Nkrumah to direct an Encyclopedia Africana project. He lived in this house until his death in 1963 and was buried on the grounds. The site became a memorial honoring his contributions to Pan-Africanism.
