HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Villa Kérylos.
The villa is a fully intact early twentieth-century structure built as a scholarly reconstruction of an ancient Greek house, incorporating period-style furnishings, mosaics, and marble finishes rather than any ancient fabric itself. It was bequeathed by its builder, Theodore Reinach, to the Institut de France, which owns and manages it, and the building is a classified historic monument. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Villa Kérylos
Archaeologist Theodore Reinach commissioned Villa Kerylos on the French Riviera in the early twentieth century, built between 1902 and 1908 to architect Emmanuel Pontremoli's design as a recreation of an ancient Greek house. Reinach used it as his residence and a showcase for Hellenic scholarship and antiquities. He later bequeathed the villa to the Institut de France.
