History happened here at Vienna Central Cemetery

Vienna Central Cemetery began burials in 1874 and grew into a large interdenominational cemetery and landscape of memorial graves.

Beethoven was first buried at Währing after his death in 1827. His remains were transferred to the Central Cemetery in 1888; the present gravestone echoes the earlier marker.
