Vesunna preserves the excavated remains of a Gallo-Roman domus with its floor plan, hypocaust heating system, and partial wall bases visible beneath a modern glass and steel museum building designed by Jean Nouvel, alongside a separate standing Roman tower structure nearby. It is managed by the city of Périgueux as a municipal archaeological museum. The site is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Vesunna (Périgueux)
Vesunna was the chief town of the Gallic Petrocorii tribe and became a flourishing Roman city in the first century BCE and CE. It featured a forum, an amphitheater, and a round temple tower, the Tour de Vésone, dedicated to the tutelary goddess Vesunna. The town served as an administrative and religious center of Roman Aquitania.
