HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Traquair House.

Traquair House preserves its thick-walled core, said to date in part from the medieval period, along with wings and furnishings added over subsequent centuries, retaining much of its historic structure and interior contents. It remains privately owned by the Maxwell Stuart family, who have occupied the house continuously. The house, grounds, and brewery are open to the public on a ticketed, seasonal basis.

About Traquair House

Traquair House began as a royal hunting lodge for Scottish kings, with parts traditionally dated to the twelfth century, making it one of Scotland's oldest inhabited houses. It later passed to the Stuart family, who held it for centuries and supported the Jacobite cause in the eighteenth century. Traquair was traditionally associated with visits by Scottish monarchs.
