About Town of Chriesman
The settlement, originally known as Yellow Prairie, was founded by Alexander Thomson Jr., a partner of the colonizer Sterling C. Robertson. When the railroad arrived in 1880, residents relocated to the tracks, and the town was renamed in 1884 for Capt. H. C. Chriesman, a surveyor for Stephen F. Austin. It served surrounding ranching communities.
