About Town Named for William Joel Bryan

The town of Bryan was platted in 1866 along the new Houston and Texas Central Railway and named for William Joel Bryan, a nephew of Stephen F. Austin and prominent local landowner who donated the townsite acreage. Bryan replaced Boonville as the Brazos County seat that same year.
