HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Touba Grand Mosque.

The Great Mosque of Touba preserves its large minaret, the Lamp Fall tower, multiple domes, and expansive marble-floored prayer halls, along with the mausoleum of Cheikh Amadou Bamba, founder of the Mouride Brotherhood. The mosque and its surrounding complex are administered by the Mouride Brotherhood under its Caliph General, rather than by the Senegalese state. It functions as an active mosque and pilgrimage site, generally open to visitors who observe modest dress and behavior.

About Touba Grand Mosque

Built by the Mouride Sufi order in the twentieth century, the Great Mosque of Touba was constructed as the spiritual center of the brotherhood founded by Cheikh Amadou Bamba. It contains Bamba's mausoleum, which became the destination of the annual Grand Magal pilgrimage. The mosque anchored Touba's growth into a major center of Sufi Islam in Senegal.
