The Tombs of the Kings survive as an extensive necropolis of underground burial chambers cut into rock, several with Doric columned courtyards, though many chambers stand empty of their original contents. The site forms part of the Paphos World Heritage Site and is managed by the Cyprus Department of Antiquities. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Tombs of the Kings, Paphos (UNESCO)
The Tombs of the Kings at Paphos formed an underground necropolis carved from bedrock beginning in the Hellenistic period. Despite its name, it held aristocrats and officials rather than actual kings, in tombs carved to resemble houses with columned Doric courtyards. The necropolis served as a burial ground for the Paphos elite into the Roman period.
