HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Tindari (Tyndaris) Archaeological Park, Sicily.
The archaeological park at Tindari preserves sections of the Greek and Roman city walls, a Roman theater, the monumental structure known as the basilica, and residential quarters with surviving mosaic floors, all original ruins rather than reconstructions. The site is managed by the regional authority for cultural heritage of Sicily. The archaeological park is open to visitors on a ticketed basis.
About Tindari (Tyndaris) Archaeological Park, Sicily
The tyrant Dionysius I of Syracuse founded Tyndaris around 396 BCE as a colony for refugees loyal to Sparta following the Peloponnesian War. It grew into a fortified Hellenistic city with a theater, agora, and basilica, later becoming a Roman municipium. Its hilltop position made it a strategic base overlooking the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily.
