HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Timberline Lodge.
Timberline Lodge preserves its original hand hewn timber framing, massive stone central chimney, wrought iron fixtures, carved newel posts, and Depression era murals, textiles, and furnishings created by Works Progress Administration craftsmen. It is a National Historic Landmark owned by the U.S. Forest Service and operated under concession as a working hotel and ski lodge. The public areas are freely open to visitors, with overnight accommodations available.
About Timberline Lodge
Timberline Lodge was built between 1936 and 1938 by the Works Progress Administration as a New Deal project on the slopes of Mount Hood. Skilled craftsmen and artists created its rustic timber and stone architecture, furnishings, and artwork by hand. President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the lodge in 1937 as a showcase of federal relief employment.
