HISTORIC PRESERVATION at This Is the Place Heritage Park.
The park preserves and displays a collection of original and relocated nineteenth-century pioneer buildings, along with the This Is the Place Monument commemorating the entry of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley. It is owned and operated by the State of Utah through the This Is the Place Heritage Foundation. The monument grounds are freely accessible, while the village of historic buildings is open on a ticketed basis.
About This Is the Place Heritage Park
Brigham Young led the first Mormon pioneer company into the Salt Lake Valley in July 1847 and, viewing it from the surrounding hills, declared it the site for settlement. Utah later erected a monument to commemorate the arrival and founding of the Latter-day Saint colony. The park grew into an open-air museum recreating pioneer and Native life.
