The Vyne retains its Tudor brick core, including the early sixteenth century chapel with its original stained glass, together with a later classical portico added in the seventeenth century and surrounding landscaped gardens and parkland. It is owned and managed by the National Trust, which holds it as one of its historic houses. The house and grounds are open to the public on a ticketed, seasonal basis.
About The Vyne, Hampshire
The Vyne was built in the early sixteenth century by William Sandys, later Baron Sandys and Lord Chamberlain to Henry VIII, as a Tudor courtier's house. Henry VIII himself visited the estate, reflecting Sandys's standing at court. The house later passed to the Chute family, who held it for generations, and its chapel contained Renaissance stained glass.
