A reconstructed stockade and historic buildings preserve the memory of the Connecticut River frontier settlement. Furnished structures, demonstrations, collections, archaeology, and maintained grounds support seasonal interpretation, although much of the visible fort complex is reconstructed rather than original.

This reconstructed 18th-century frontier settlement served as a staging point for General John Stark's New Hampshire militia as they marched toward the 1777 Battle of Bennington. The surviving place or marker keeps this historical association visible within its community.
