About The Bottom Historic District
Dutch settlers established The Bottom, set within an old volcanic crater on Saba, as the island's main village in the seventeenth century. It served for centuries as the administrative center of this small Dutch Caribbean island. The community relied on subsistence farming, fishing, and later boat building and lace making for its livelihood.
