HISTORIC PRESERVATION at The Barnacle Historic State Park.

The park preserves Ralph Munroe's 1891 wood-frame bungalow, built partly from salvaged shipwreck timber, along with its boathouse and surrounding hardwood hammock grounds on Biscayne Bay, standing on its original site. It is managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as part of the Florida State Parks system. The grounds are open to the public, with the house accessible by guided tour.

About The Barnacle Historic State Park

The Barnacle was built in 1891 in Coconut Grove as the home of Ralph Middleton Munroe, a yacht designer and pioneer settler of the Miami area. Munroe designed the house himself with features suited to the subtropical climate and later expanded it for his growing family. It ranked among the earliest homes built in the area that became Miami.
