HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Tharros Archaeological Site.
The site preserves Phoenician-Punic and Roman remains, including the tophet sanctuary, city walls, paved streets, thermal baths, and two reconstructed Corinthian columns, along with fortifications reused from earlier Nuragic structures. It is managed by the Comune di Cabras together with Sardinia's regional heritage authorities. The archaeological park is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Tharros Archaeological Site
Phoenician settlers founded Tharros on Sardinia's west coast in the eighth century BCE as a trading port. Carthage later controlled the city before it passed to Rome after the Punic Wars. It served as a commercial and administrative center linking Sardinia to wider Mediterranean trade networks for centuries.
