It falls under the authority of Morocco's Ministry of Culture as a protected archaeological zone. Access is limited and informal, with the ruins lying in open ground near the Sebou River.
About Thamusida Roman Ruins, near Kénitra
Thamusida began as a Phoenician or Carthaginian trading post on the Sebou River in the mid-first millennium BCE, later developed under Mauretanian and then Roman rule. It grew into a fortified Roman town with a military camp guarding trade routes into the interior of North Africa. The site marked a frontier outpost of Roman authority in ancient Mauretania Tingitana.
