HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Termessos.

Termessos preserves an extensive unrestored Hellenistic and Roman city built into the mountainside, including a theater, agora, temples, cisterns, and a rock cut necropolis, much of it left in its original ruined state without reconstruction. It lies within Termessos National Park under the management of Turkish state forestry and cultural heritage authorities. The ruins are freely accessible in open ground, reached by a hike from the park entrance.

About Termessos

Termessos was a fortified Pisidian city built high in the mountains above Antalya from around the fourth century BCE. It successfully resisted a siege by Alexander the Great in 333 BCE, one of few cities to withstand him. It later kept self-governing status as a free city under Rome, prized for controlling mountain routes, before being abandoned.
