HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Temple of Olympian Zeus.

The Olympieion survives as fifteen of its original one hundred and four Corinthian columns still standing, along with one column toppled by a storm and lying where it fell, on the temple's foundation platform. It is managed by the Greek Ministry of Culture as an archaeological site within central Athens. The ruins are open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Temple of Olympian Zeus

Construction of the Temple of Olympian Zeus began in the sixth century BCE under the Athenian tyrant Peisistratos but stalled for centuries. The Roman emperor Hadrian completed the Corinthian temple in the second century CE, dedicating it to Zeus. It became one of the largest temples in the ancient Greek world and a centerpiece of Hadrian's building program.
