HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Taposiris Magna.

The site preserves a limestone tower long identified with a Ptolemaic era lighthouse, the remains of a temple to Osiris, a necropolis with rock cut tombs, and sections of a fortified enclosure, with much of the structure surviving only as foundations and partial walls. It falls under the authority of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The site is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Taposiris Magna

Taposiris Magna was founded in the third century BCE under the Ptolemaic dynasty as a temple city west of Alexandria, centered on a sanctuary dedicated to Osiris. It also contained a tower structure thought to echo the design of the nearby Pharos lighthouse. Some researchers have speculated the site may hold the tomb of Cleopatra, though this remains unconfirmed.
