Star Carr was a Mesolithic settlement used by hunter-gatherer communities beginning around 9000 BCE beside an ancient lake in the Vale of Pickering. Excavations there uncovered wooden platforms, worked flints, and headdresses made from red deer skulls and antlers, likely used in ritual or hunting. The site offered rare evidence of hunter-gatherer life in early Britain.
