HISTORIC PRESERVATION at St James's Palace, London.

St James's Palace retains its original Tudor brick gatehouse facing the street along with other historic ranges built up over subsequent centuries, though much of the palace complex has been altered and added to over time and is not open in the way a museum property would be. It remains a royal residence in the ownership of the Crown, serving as an official royal palace and administrative center. It is not generally open to the public, with access restricted to its ceremonial and official functions, though the exterior can be viewed from the street.

About St James's Palace, London

St James's Palace was built by Henry VIII in the 1530s on the site of a former leper hospital. After Whitehall Palace burned down in 1698, it became the monarch's principal London residence for over a century. It remained the formal seat of the royal court, with foreign ambassadors accredited to the Court of St James's.
