HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Spanish Military Hospital Museum.

The museum occupies a reconstruction of the late eighteenth-century Spanish colonial military hospital and its adjoining apothecary and ward, built on the original site rather than preserving any original colonial era fabric. It is operated by a private nonprofit organization within the historic district of St. Augustine. The museum is open to the public on a ticketed, guided-tour basis.

About Spanish Military Hospital Museum

The Spanish Military Hospital served Spanish colonial troops garrisoned in St. Augustine during the second Spanish period of Florida, beginning in the late eighteenth century. It provided medical care and convalescence for soldiers of the presidio, reflecting the town's role as a fortified outpost of Spain's Atlantic empire. It exemplified the practice of Spanish colonial military medicine in North America.
