HISTORIC PRESERVATION at South Pass City State Historic Site.

South Pass City preserves roughly thirty original and reconstructed wood-frame buildings from its gold-rush era, including stores, a hotel, and dwellings, set out along its historic townsite. It is managed by Wyoming State Parks and Historic Sites as a state historic site. The site is open to the public on a seasonal basis, with self-guided access to the townsite and buildings.

About South Pass City State Historic Site

South Pass City was established in 1867 after gold was discovered nearby, becoming a boomtown of prospectors and merchants along the historic South Pass route through the Rocky Mountains. In 1869 local legislator William Bright introduced the bill that granted Wyoming women the right to vote, a first for the nation. The town declined after the gold ran out.
