About Soufrière Estate & Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens
The Soufrière Estate was granted to a French colonial family in the eighteenth century as part of Saint Lucia's plantation economy. Mineral baths were built on the estate to draw on nearby volcanic hot springs, reportedly for the benefit of French troops. The estate combined sugar farming with these springs under French rule before the island passed to Britain.
