About Somervell Expedition Muster Site (San Antonio)
In retaliation for Woll's invasion, several hundred Texan volunteers mustered here in late 1842 under General Alexander Somervell for a punitive expedition into Mexico; a breakaway faction that continued past the Rio Grande was later captured at Mier and decimated in the notorious Black Bean Episode. The ill-fated campaign marked the last major Republic-era military action against Mexico.
