About Site of the Home of General Sam Houston and Family

The original house on this site was built in 1837 by Thomas Barron and was first occupied by General Sam Houston and his family in 1854. It served as a Houston family residence in Independence, Texas, during the mid-nineteenth century. The house was later torn down and rebuilt in 1897 by James Dallas.
