About Site of Plato's Academy (Akadimia Platonos), Athens, Greece

Plato founded his Academy around 387 BCE in a grove northwest of Athens sacred to the hero Academus, establishing one of the first institutions of higher learning in the Greek world. Generations of philosophers, including Aristotle, studied there before founding their own schools. The Academy operated for centuries as a center of Platonist philosophy into late antiquity.
