About Site of Masonic Academy
The Masonic Academy replaced Hickory Grove School, organized in 1840, after land was given to Graham Lodge No. 20, A.F. and A.M. The lodge built the academy in 1849, and it served as the only school in the area. It closed after the Texas Public School Act of 1875, and proceeds from selling its property went to Brenham's public school.
