About Site of Freeman Inn
Ira M. Freeman built this inn in 1856 as a way station and hotel serving passengers on several stage lines through Navasota. The two-story pine building housed many travelers, including Sam Houston, and sheltered important visitors and officers during the Civil War. Freeman kept coaches and teams in barns adjoining the inn.
