The site preserves a large Roman theater, the partially re-erected columns of the Temple of Apollo on the harbor point, city walls, a monumental gate, and a museum housed in former Roman baths. It is administered by Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with the ruins intermixed with the modern town. Access to the main monuments is generally open, with the theater and museum on a ticketed basis.
About Side
Side was founded by Greek colonists, traditionally from Cyme in Aeolis, around the seventh century BCE on the Pamphylian coast of Anatolia. It developed into a major port under Hellenistic and Roman rule and gained a reputation as a center of the regional slave trade. The city later became an important early Christian bishopric within the Byzantine world.
