HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Sermoneta & Castello Caetani.

The hill town retains its medieval walls, gates, and narrow streets, along with the well-preserved Castello Caetani, whose towers, halls, and fortifications survive largely intact from successive medieval and Renaissance building phases. The castle is owned and maintained by the Caetani Foundation, while the town falls under municipal administration. The castle is open to the public on a ticketed or guided basis, and the town's streets are freely accessible.

About Sermoneta & Castello Caetani

The hill town of Sermoneta and its castle came under the control of the Caetani family in 1297, after they acquired it from the Annibaldi family. The Caetani, whose relatives included Pope Boniface VIII, rebuilt and fortified the castle over subsequent generations as a seat of their feudal lordship. The stronghold anchored their power south of Rome.
