HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Segedunum Roman Fort, Wallsend.

The excavated foundations of the Roman fort's gates, barracks, and headquarters building survive within an open archaeological park, alongside a full-scale reconstruction of a Roman bathhouse and a reconstructed section of Hadrian's Wall. The site forms part of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site and is managed by Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, with an on-site museum and viewing tower. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Segedunum Roman Fort, Wallsend

Segedunum was built around 122 CE as a Roman auxiliary fort marking the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall on the River Tyne. It housed several hundred soldiers drawn from auxiliary units recruited across the Roman Empire. The fort guarded the wall's terminus and a key river crossing, forming part of Roman Britain's frontier defenses for nearly three centuries.
